A True Princess of the King
Psalm 45 says this, “Listen, daughter, and pay careful attention: Forget your people and your father’s house. Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord… All glorious is the princess within her chamber; her gown is interwoven with gold.”
This has been a precious passage to me for years, and it is a very personal call from God to me. He is the one true King, and He desires me to be His bride, His princess, to be completely His. He is not an aloof God who loves me because He is sort of obligated to. No! He is intense in His love, and His heart is captivated by beauty.
What beauty does His princess possess? It is answered that the glory of the princess is within her chamber, which is the inner self. That hidden person of the inner man can either enthrall the King with her beauty, or not. It is the heart of the princess that captivates her King – she puts on a gown interwoven with Gold, which is the putting on of the nature of God Himself.
The mark of a true princess is aptly described in Frances Burnett’s book The Little Princess, “Whatever comes cannot alter one thing. If I am a princess in rags and tatters, I can be a princess inside. It would be easy to be a princess if I were dressed in cloth of gold, but it is a great deal more of a triumph to be one all the time when no one knows it.”
The highest mark of a true princess is the nobility of her heart. That is what makes her “all glorious within her chamber”. George MacDonald puts it this way, “Nobody can be a real princess – do not imagine you have yet been anything more than a mock one – until she is a princess over herself… So long as any mood she is in makes her do the thing she will be sorry for when that mood is over, she is a slave, and no princess. A princess is able to do what is right even should she be in a mood that would make another unable to do it.”
The glory and beauty of a princess of the King of kings is found in the hidden person of the heart. Anyone with the noble heart described above, even if she be in rags and dirt, is a princess, beautiful and captivating to the King.
